About ten years ago, I knew this girl who was having a very rough time. She lost her job and all of her utilities were cut off. She had kids, and she would take them to the park to wash up at night and carry water home in jugs so they could wash in the mornings. When it got to be summer time, it was just so hot, so she sent them to stay with their dad, who was a totally skum bucket. It really upset her.
So after that, she started having sex for money. She would list herself on different sites, and then meet strange men at hotels for sex. Within a few months, she got her utilities on and her kids back, and then found a job soon after that. Though I don't think I could make the same decision she did, I can't fault her for turning to prostitution either. I have my family to fall back on in tough times, as well as friends. She had no one.
I was reminded of this today after reading this article: www.kwtx.com/home/headlines/Local-Undercover-Cop-Reveals-Dangers-of-Online-Prostitution--208255181.html#.UZvJlqI-ZDM
My friend could have got hurt, but she also could have been arrested. Which in turn would have made it hard for her to get a legit job and her kids back. In my mind, I don't think prostitution should be an illegal thing to do. Erase the dangers and health concerns associated with it, and help women get to the point where they don't have to go there in the first place.
What's your opinion?

I live in a nation full of hipocrisies....
The prostitution "doesn't exist" it isn't a recognized work, nor a crime, but if the tax "agents" find you they make you pay taxes counting how many BJ you could do in a night and the price of every one of them.
Prostitution should be illegal out of brothel stricty surveilled by the police and the medics, for healt issues and the trading of unauthorized immigration only for the sake of prostitution and the prostitution of minors.
It's "the oldest job of the world", so it's impossible to eradicate, but it can be controlled and made more "human"... no... more safe, maybe...

I've never quite understood how prostitution is a crime. How can it be illegal to charge for something that everyone is doing for free? The answer is simple: we live in an extremely conservative and puritanical society. Like it or not, our laws are based on many Christian beliefs. Many countries around the world have made prostitution legal and have very few problems with it. It's regulated by the government, and health/safety is tightly controlled.
I've always said, "With a hooker, you're not paying for sex. You're paying her to leave afterward."
It's a victimless crime, in my opinion.

We live in an extremely conservative society. Until six months ago, I was living in a dry county (no alcohol sales). We voted to finally go "wet" last November. I get home today to a flyer on my door where some neighbors are objecting to a liquor store opening up in a vacant shop at a nearby strip mall. *facepalms*
As long as both parties are being safe and smart, I see nothing wrong with prostitution. It probably occurs more than many people realize. I know that some local law enforcement ignores it unless there's complaints of violence or theft. The crackdowns we have locally are because people get careless and law enforcement has to flex their muscles to get people to wise up.

The article I linked you all to said that the police did a sting, but prostitutes weren't their target -- the johns were. Imagine trying to explain that to your significant other.

Is like Woot said : "With a hooker, you're not paying for sex. You're paying her to leave afterward."
if you need a prostitute, your significant other doesn't care much, and so no problem in explaining her , or she didn't was so significant...

In My state here, prostitution is Legalized to an extent. Much like many states in the US have stores capable of selling marijuana, the idea was to take it off the street corners and into a more safe, regulated environment.
Regulated Brothels are Taxable, but must be set up within an industrial area, outside a certain radius of nearby schools and youth locations. And girls are required to obtain licenses prior to working. As well as rigorous health checks. Has cut down on street prostitution immeasurably.
