I know i am sick , to some extent... But to understand better the way to make roles more realistic i was thinking about the lock of the leash... that appreciated and despised mechanism that permit us to secure the pretty preys after we fill the woods of the fields with a lot of missing arrows....
it had to have some requirements : 1) quick to lock and unlock 2) can be removed by people different from the hunter that locked it 3) can't be removed by the prey on wich is used
let's tjink of what it can't be : - can't be a knot (the prey could undone it and it would take time to knot it) - cant be a padlock (it could be lockpicked with time, and on the other hand the pther people couldn't swiftly unlock it without the key, and more, the prey could steal the key from the clothes of the hunter so running away rather easilly)
then i tought about a mechanism done like this: a mechanism that can be locked swiftly about the armband with the pressure of a button, but that can be opened only using two hands, one to press a lever with a spring and one or more pegs that secure the moving piece of metal in place when closed, freeing it, shile the other hand puches back another tiny lever to slide the moving piece of metal opening the locking device to block it in place with the third lever that is used to snap it shut again... the two levers (the one for moving the pegs and the one to make the locking metal slide have to be positioned so that the prey can't operate them both with an hand, but so that with two hands is quite easy to open it without keys and things like that ....
ok stopping the boring explanation.... i'll go back in the fields
